Trump Supporters really are a disturbing folk

While the likes of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan fill the media airwaves when it comes to prominent, despicable Republican congressmen, there are plenty of crude GOP politicians strewn throughout the country who are working to either promote a corporate agenda or support Trump’s disgusting policies.

Hailing from Ohio’s fourth congressional district, Jim Jordan is one of those cronies. A thorn in the federal government’s side since first getting elected in 2006, Jordan has earned universal praise from right-wing advocacy groups like the American Conservative Union and Americans for Prosperity. To make matters worse, he is also one of those Trump supporters who believes the President is 100 percent innocent, having been a strong opponent of Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel Investigation.

Luckily for the American public, there may be a chance at bringing him down this election year, due to the discovery of some serious allegations from his past. Before having an interest in politics, Jordan was the assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University between 1986-1994. An innocent career venture, were it not for the sexual abuse allegations that have sprung up against the former team doctor Richard Strauss.

Strauss passed away in 2005 but, possibly in response to the growing awareness of sexual abuse in the athletics world (a spin-off of the larger MeToo movement), Ohio State opened up a probe into the matter in April 2018. While no official or unofficial number has been given, the accusations range from disturbing conversations with the students to outright sexual assault.

Jordan ties into this because he, much like Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky at Penn State, is being accused of turning a blind eye to the pleas of his players. Speaking to NBC News, three former students asserted that it was common locker room knowledge that Strauss molested and showered with athletes. One of the pupils even went so far as to claim that he had informed Jordan of the crime directly, only for him to do nothing about it.

Jordan has attempted to dismiss his association under the defense that he genuinely did not know about the abuse, but former wrestler Mike DiSabato, who has been one the spearheads behind the renewed movement against Strauss, has stated otherwise:

“I considered Jim Jordan a friend. But at the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on.”

DiSabato went on to add that he actually contacted Jordan before going public, with Jordan’s response reportedly being to “please leave me out of it.” Other teammates have also come forward with similar stories: that Jordan was apparently a great guy, but conveniently kept his mouth shut about the criminal activities of Strauss.

While far from being a Roy Moore-level delinquent, Jordan’s alleged silence speaks wonders about his moral compass. Philosopher Edmund Burke is famous for penning the quote “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” Based on his political views, Jordan is far from a good man, but back in the day he at least had a chance to be a decent human being, and failed.
